Runner rugs are a longer, narrower shape and are therefore perfect for hallways, corridors or alongside furniture such as beds, sideboards or kitchen cupboards. Many designs are harder wearing and machine washable too, perfect for those high traffic areas.
Once only available in traditional designs, runner rugs have been transformed in recent years and can now often be a statement piece in the home. From the ever popular grey runner rug to washable runners and even runners to match our rugs there is a huge variety of choice.
Our Head of Design has a few tips for picking your runner rug -
- Consider the location for your runner rug. This will have an impact on the material you choose. For high traffic areas you might want to consider a heavy duty range like our Habitat range. If your looking for a machine washable rug for very high traffic areas, especially if you have pets or children our Luna range is perfect. The location of the runner rug may also influence the colour. Mottled designs and darker colour will hide a multitude of sins! For lighter traffic areas such as the living room, bedroom or a hallway you have more freedom over material and colour. I particularly love the luxurious feel of our Murano runner rugs.
- Experiment with trends - A runner rug is a great place to experiment with a trend without the commitment of changing wallpaper, paint or adding other accessories. Our runner rugs are so cheap they are the perfect place to start with changing your decor. Traditionally a rug would have been the last thing chosen when decorating a room but we are seeing more and more people start with the rug as it is low cost way to experiment before committing to a trend. I have really seen this with our trellis runner rugs.
